Darren Latham - Lord of Blights Masterclass - Part 09: Finishing Touches

Part 09 and we finally get to assemble the different components of the miniature we've been working on.

This is the final part of working on the figure itself and is mainly clean-up and some minor tweaks to the painting already done.

(This is a thumbnail of the original video, unfortunately no longer available as of 18/05/2020)

Assembly and clean-up:
Once all the components were pulled off of their pins the connection points were cleaned up and the figure was assembled with plastic glue and we get to see him in one piece for the first time.

The largest area to clean up for this part you can see in the above image. There are two strips of flesh that the gallows pierce on the back.

Note that Mr Latham said he actually missed these sections when originally painting the skin and they could have been painted at the same time.

I beg to differ though, I think if we had tackled these skin areas at the same time then it would have made it really difficult to do the wood-grain on the gallows themselves.

So we had to revisit Part 02: Painting the Skin to complete these sections and that is actually the longest part of this entire section.

Part 09 Complete:
Other than the two flesh areas there was very little intensive work to do at this stage. A little clean-up, some minor shading and highlighting where you think it's needed.

So at his point we can pretty much call the figure itself done!

So another short update, it's funny, I was expecting it to be much more intense work ahead of me. But we did all that in the large sections of the figure and all the later ones went surprisingly fast in comparison.

Now all that needs to be done to complete the figure fully is the base. Now in the actual Part 10 video Mr Latham uses a simple pre-sculpted base in a winter theme, but does say to make our own.

The colours of the figure were chosen to fit in a cold environment so I won't be changing that winter theme.

But I think I'm going to do more than a simple base for this figure. I've put a lot of effort inot it and enjoyed the series so much that I'd rather do something special, so I will be making a plinth with scenic/diorama in a winter theme to finish off the project properly.

So I hope you'll join me again as I start the final stage of work on this piece and truly finish it off.

Until then, take care.
